2014 International Festival

UNM International Festival

When: Thursday April 17th, 2014
Where: Cornell Mall (outdoor walkway east of SUB and west of Mesa Vista Hall)

Global Education Office proudly presents the annual UNM International Festival! Our International Festival is a true celebration of culture and diversity at UNM, occurring annually during the Spring semester and featuring food, crafts and performances from all over the world- ranging from Middle Eastern Belly Dancing to Traditional African Drumming. The festival generates great energy, rhythm and color by showcasing and bringing cultures from around the world  to the UNM community.

Over the past decade, the International Festival has taken on many shapes and forms, often with over 1000 people in attendance. The 2007 festival marked our first outdoor festival (it was previously an indoor event), a trend which we plan to continue and expand this year! Local restaurants and student organizations will prepare fabulous-tasting cuisines from countries such as India, China, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Turkey, Germany, Spain, Taiwan and Brazil, so come with an appetite and some change in your pocket!

The International Festival is a great hands-on way for the UNM community to learn about and experience diverse music, tasty international cuisine, and cultural traditions from around the world. Many of our international students come dressed in their traditional clothing and regalia. Student groups display a wide variety of crafts and arts from their home countries including origami from Japan, Henna hand painting from India, coffee-making from Brazil and many, many more. Thank you to all the 2014 participants who made International Festival a great success!
