The International Amigo Scholarship entitles qualifying international students to a non-resident tuition waiver (value of more than $14,000 per year) provided a student meets renewal requirements.
Undergraduates must have:
Freshman applicants: The equivalent of a U.S. 3.5 upper secondary school (high school) college preparatory course work grade point average (GPA) as determined by UNM or 26 ACT (1240 SAT) and 3.0 college preparatory course work grade point average GPA. Transfer applicants: A 3.25 college transfer GPA (for a student who has completed the equivalent of 30 college credit hours) as determined by UNM
Admission to a full-time UNM degree program by the deadline
Non-immigrant visa status (F1 or J1) status
No previous attendance in the current UNM program
The Scholarship may be renewed annually for up to four years for freshman applicants and two years for transfer applicants provided the student maintains enrollment in 15 credit hours with a minimum 3.0 GPA each semester. A student who fails to meet the requirements loses the scholarship.
Deadline and Selection
The Fall semester priority deadline is February 15. Applicants are encouraged to have all required application materials submitted at this time.
Academically eligible applicants who have met the GPA or SAT/ACT and GPA threshold will be instructed to compose an essay on a subject of the committee's choosing. This essay must be submitted by the deadline provided to the applicant. Essays will be reviewed and awarded applicants will be notified via email.
