ABQ Shopping Tour

Saturday, January 13th @ 10:00 am 

This is a 5 hour shopping tour around Albuquerque, we will stop at Talin Market, Coronado Center, Walmart, Old Town Plaza.

Welcome Dinner/Party

Friday, January 19th @ 6:00 pm 

Party at Hokona Hall to welcome the students. We provide dinner, play international music, meet ang reet all of the students and this year we are breaking a piñata. 

Red River Ski Trip 

Friday, February 2nd to Sundary February 4th 

Go on a Gateway Adventure to Red River, New Mexico. Explore the mountain, ski down the slopes, or just hang out by the snow and drink some hot chocolate. Get the chance to watch and support the UNM Ski team in the Red River Competition! The base fee for this trip is $116.00 which includes 2 hotel nights, a lunch, and transportation. Moab, Utah

Sunday, March 11th to Tuesday, March 13th 

This amazing Spring Break Road Trip with REC Services takes you from New Mexico to Moab, Utah!!! On the way you will visit the Canyonlands National Park, the Aztec Ruins National Monument, and Arches National Park (look it up its awesome). This trip is an amazing opportunity to travel and see the scenic landscape of the west! The cost includes lodging, transportation, and 7 meals.

Field Day 

Friday March 30th @ 4:00 pm

Cook and bring your favorite side dish, snacks, or dessert and meet up with all of the international students on the volleyball courts of Casas Del Rio (North of Johnsons Field)! Apart from getting a taste of different international food, GEO will cater a main dish and organize soccer, volleyball, and Frisbee games!

Isotopes Game

Saturday, April 28th @ 6:00pm 

International students and lobo friends are invited to watch an isotopes game for free. Whether you know anything about the game or not, going to a baseball game is a fun American experience that you can’t miss out on! We have a space reserved for everyone to sit together and enjoy the game!

Farewell Party 

Saturday, May 5th @ 6:00pm 

The final activity will be the farewell party! This is the student’s last get together before finals week, it’s a great way to see your international friends and relax before exams begin!

International Reception 

Monday, August 13th @ 4 pm in Hodgin Hall

GEO admissions, partnered with the alumni association, will be holding an international reception at Hodgin Hall. Come and meet faculty from your field of study, other international students, GEO employees, and taste our provided snacks and drinks! Undergraduate and graduates are all invited.

Tram Trip

Friday, August 17th @ 2 -8  pm

GEO and Recreational Services partner up to take international students on fun trips every semester. The Tramway Trip is the first one of the school year  , in which we will take students to the foot of the Sandia Mountains and take a tram up to the top of the mountain!

Welcome Picnic

Saturday, August 18th @ 1 pm - 4 pm in Lawn by Duck Pond and Zimmerman Library *FREE*

This is one of the biggest event of the semester. GEO will hold a large picnic at UNM’s Duck Pond, provide food, drinks, and music. We encourage students to bring sport balls (i.e. soccer ball or volleyball) and bring their instruments.

Pool Party

Friday, August 20th @ 6 pm in Johnson Natatorium

All international students and lobo friends are invited to a pool party at Johnson Natatorium! Music, pizza, pool games, and soccer games will be available!

Football Tailgate 

Saturday, September 1st @ 5:00 pm South Lot Parking

If you’re looking for something to do on Labor Day weekend, go to UNM’s first college football game of the season! We will be in a reserved tent for 100 people with Dion’s pizza, drinks, and after you can all watch the football game for free with your UNM ID card!

Lobo Thirstday

Taos Trip

Saturday, September 8th - Sunday, September 9th 

Do not miss the chance to have a great weekend in TAOS! Have a great experience meeting new friends and get to know one of the most beautiful historic towns in the mountains of New Mexico! Trip includes bus transportation from UNM campus and back, overnight accommodations, guides, 2 lunches, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, Earth Ship Visitor Center, Chairlift Ride at Taos Ski Valley, and more!

Wednesday, September 12th @ 6:00 pm in Johnson's Field

It is an American tradition! Joins us for the $1 day at the State Fair, $1 entrance and $1 every ride, you cannot ask for a better deal! Bring your UNM ID with the bus sticker to ride the bus to the Fair and get ready to enjoy games and delicious food!

Hiking

Saturday, September 22nd @ 9:00 am in Johnson's Field

Join us on Saturday morning for a nice hike at the Sandia Mountains. The hike is easy and can be completed by new hikers. Make sure to take water, a hat, sunscreen, and good walking shoes.

Soccer Tailgate

Wednesday, September 26th @ 6:00 pm 

During this homecoming weekend GEO and the Alumni Association get together and hold a tailgate for the men’s home soccer game. If you’re a soccer fan come and watch the game and if you’re not a fan still come down, eat, and drink beer.

Balloon Fiesta Night Glow

Sunday, October 7th @4:30pm

The International Balloon Fiesta is one of Albuquerque’s main events that will take place from October 6th-14th. Rec Services will be providing night trip to see the balloons light up on the ground and brighten the night. Balloon Fiesta is a really fun event where free stuff is given away, a lot of food is sold and can lead to some amazing memories.

Balloon Fiesta Special Shapes

Thursday, October 11th @ 5 am in Johnson's Field

For the past 44 years, for nine days in October, the New Mexico skies are painted as hundreds of balloons lift off from Albuquerque’s Balloon Fiesta Park. Nothing rivals the power of Mass Ascensions of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta on crisp early mornings as these graceful giants leave the ground to take their place in the sky. This morning is the Special Shapes event where cool balloon figures such as Darth Vader, a cow, and a family of bees lift up into the sky.

Grand Canyon Trip

Friday, October 12th - Sunday, October 14th

Rec Services plans this weekend trip to the Grand Canyon so that students can hike, explore, and see the amazing monument. Some meals, transportation, and lodging will be provided all you have to do is sign-up, show-up, and experience an unforgettable trip.

Football Game

Saturday, October 20th 

Join the UNM lobos at the football arena and cheer on the team as they play against Fresno State. Students can get in for free at all of the football games as long as they have their Lobo ID. After you are in the doors buy, food sit down next to other international students, and enjoy the game.

Halloween Party

Go to a fun Halloween party on Nob Hill! Dress up in a costume, attend, and have a great night!

Marigold Parade- Dia de los Muertos

Sunday, November 4th @ 10:30am 

Join the City of Albuquerque at the Day of the Dead Parade! There will be yummy New Mexican food, face painting, art, live music, and dance. This is a fun cultural experience that you can’t miss out on!

Hanging of the Greens

Friday, April 30th @ 7:00 pm in UNM Main Campus

Join other UNM student on the luminaria walk around UNM! Sing Christmas songs, see the awesome designs that students create, and after the walk eat biscochitos and drink hot chocolate or apple cider.

Farewell Party

Friday, December 7th @ 6:00 pm
