Spring 2020 Social Activities

1/16/20 GEO Night at Kelly’s @ 5:00 

Relax with other international students after orientation at GEO Night! We will be going to Kelly’s Brewery where you can eat food, drink, participate in games, and karaoke with all the new students! 

1/24/20 International Welcome Dinner @ 6:00-9:00 pm 

Come to a beginning of the semester dinner where you can meet GEO staff and new and returning international students. After dinner, there will be a DJ and dance party! 

2/1/20 Santa Fe Trip @8:00-5:15 pm 

Visit the state capitol, its historic plaza, and the interactive Meow Wolf museum! The one-day trip includes transportation to and from Santa Fe and lunch. 

Fee: $50.00 

2/2/20 Super Bowl Party 

This is the NFL (National Football League) championship where the two best football teams play against one another. This is one of the most televised events of the year, which includes a concert performance by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez and the best TV commercials. 

2/22/20 – 2/23/20 Ski Trip 

Enjoy a trip to the mountains and ski or snowboard! Three different packages can be bought depending on whether you will need lessons, will be skiing, snowboarding, or just visiting the mountain.

Package B: Hotel- 2 nights, Meals (2), Transportation, Lift Ticket, Lessons, Equipment Rental 

Package C: Hotel- 2 nights, Meals (2), Transportation, Lift Ticket, Rental of Skis or Snowboard (1 day)

NM United Soccer Game  

Support New Mexico’s very own professional soccer team! Reserve your spot ahead of time so that you can sit with the group of international students. There will be concessions, drinks, and souvenirs for sale. 


3/15/20 – 3/17/20 Spring Break Trip 

Visit two of the most beautiful national parks in New Mexico! Carlsbad Caverns features more than 100 caves and a huge underground chamber, White Sands is known for its dramatic landscape of rare white gypsum sand dunes. This three-day trip includes some meals, entry to parks, and transportation. 

Fee: $228.00 

4/4/20 Field Day 

Come and hang out with other international students and participate in many fun outdoor activities! Our main activities will be a basketball, volleyball, soccer and a tug-of-war contest. We will be providing popsicles and beverages! 

4/16/20 International Festival    

This UNM wide event is hosted by GEO to exhibit the different cultures in the UNM student/staff population. There are information, food, and craft booths, as well as performances from different countries. International students are welcome to attend as guests or participate by sharing their own country/culture. 

4/25/20 – 4/26/20 Camping 

This one night camping trip will take place at Villanueva State Park (located an hour and a half from Albuquerque). This will be a trip to relax, hang out with other students, and take a short hike to the Pecos River. GEO will provide sleeping bags, snacks, and transportation! 

5/8/20 Pool Party 

The final activity of the semester will be a pool party at Johnson Natatorium! Music, pizza, swimming pool, and soccer/volleyball games will be available! Jump into the pool, play sports, hangout, and relax with other international students.
