Fall 2019 Social Activities

Sandia Peak Tram

Friday, August 16th

GEO and Recreational Services partner up to take international students on fun trips every semester. The Tramway Trip is the first one of the school year! On this trip we take students to the Sandia Mountain foot hills and ride a tram up to the top of the mountain! Here we do a quick hike to the historic stone house where students may take scenic pictures.

Welcome Picnic 

Saturday, August 17th

This is one of the biggest events of the semester. GEO will hold a large picnic at UNM’s Duck Pond, provide food, drinks, and music. We encourage students to bring sport balls (i.e. soccer ball or volleyball) and their instruments. Undergraduate and Graduate Students (including their families) attend this large event and is a great way to meet new people.

Pool Party

Friday, August 23rd

All international students and lobo friends are invited to a pool party at Johnson Natatorium! Music, pizza, pool games, and soccer games will be available! Jump into the pool, play sports, hang-out, and relax with other international students.

Taos Trip

Saturday, September 7th - Sunday, September 8th

Join REC services on their exclusive International Students trip to have a great weekend in TAOS! Have a great experience meeting new friends and visiting one of the most beautiful historic towns in the mountains of New Mexico! Trip includes bus transportation from UNM campus and back, overnight accommodations, guides, 2 lunches, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, Earth Ship Visitor Center, Chairlift Ride at Taos Ski Valley, and more!

Sandia Hiking   

Saturday, September 28th

Join us on Saturday morning to a nice hike in the Sandia Mountains. The hike is easy and can be completed by new hikers. There will be great spots to take pictures and see Albuquerque from above! Make sure to take water, a hat, sunscreen, and good walking shoes.

Balloon Fiesta Night Glow

Saturday, October 5th

The International Balloon Fiesta is one of Albuquerque’s main events that will take place from October 5th-13th. Rec Services will be providing night trip to see the balloons light up on the ground and brighten the night. Balloon Fiesta is a really fun event where free stuff is given away, a lot of food is sold and can lead to some amazing memories.

Fall Break Grand Canyon Trip

Friday, October 11th - Sunday, October 13th

Rec Services plans this weekend trip to the Grand Canyon so that students can hike, explore, and see the amazing monument. Some meals, transportation, and lodging will be provided all you have to do is sign-up, show-up, and experience an unforgettable trip.

Muertos y Marigold Parade

Sunday, November 3rd

Join the City of Albuquerque at the Day of the Dead Parade! There will be yummy New Mexican food, face painting, art, live music, and dance. This is a fun cultural experience that you can’t miss out on!

Game Night

Friday, November 22nd

Play board games, eat snacks, and chat with other international students. This event is a great way to relax and hang out with students you can relate to. There will also be students from the Christian Student Center attending so that you may meet students outside of the international population.

Farewell Party

Friday, December 6th

The final activity will be the farewell party! This is the student’s last get together before finals week, it’s a great way to see your international friends and relax before exams begin!
